EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At a Jan. 13 meeting, the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District Board reviewed reports and approved arts equipment, course registration for 2026–27, and community bond polling for facilities planning. The Superintendent outlined the upcoming MLK Day event and arts performances while policy updates and donations were also discussed. Paso Robles Daily News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The California Privacy Protection Agency launched DROP, a platform that helps residents remove personal data from more than 500 data brokers. Brokers must begin processing removal requests every 45 days starting in August or face fines. KSBY
- ➤ Community members, including actor Ted Danson and local environmental advocates, voiced concerns at a Friday public hearing over a federal plan to allow offshore oil drilling in the Santa Barbara Channel. The 60-day comment period will close Jan. 23 (environmental review is ongoing). KSBY
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Cal Poly Women’s Basketball lost 86-46 to University of Hawai’i on Thursday, giving the opponent their first conference win and dropping the Mustangs to a (1-6) record in Big West play. They will face UC Santa Barbara on Thursday, Jan. 22, at 7 p.m. in Mott Athletics Center. Mustang News
- ➤ Cal Poly Men's Basketball fell 86-68 to the University of Hawai’i at Mott Athletic Center on Thursday. The Mustangs shot poorly from beyond the arc & lost guard Jake Davis to an injury, with coach Mike DeGeorge blaming the team's unsteady emotions for the loss. Mustang News
- ➤ Cal Poly Beach Volleyball is featured in the documentary (Kicking Up Sand) that tells the story of their 2025 run to the Final Four and showcases four All-American players during a premiere held last week at the Fremont Theater. Director Jon Hastings and head coach Todd Rogers say the film captures the team’s passion and future plans. Mustang News
